About

PolyLAB has evolved a number of interesting projects in space-related network computing. Based around PDG and Telematics technologies, we explore how to deploy distributed network computing in remote locations, to support collaboration between users, and access to powerful remote services. The wide range of facilities available to PolyLAB allows us to explore innovative new ways to communicate via space-based systems, and for space-related projects.

• High Performance Networking 2000: A large-scale project, under High Performance Computing Network Funding, investigating the transparent access to remote services via technologies ranging from conventional TCP/IP to ATM over space-based links.
• CraterNet: Constructing integrated networks for supporting human-crewed interplanetary exploration, and Earth-based exploration science.
• Live from Denali: Analyzing and presenting information live from the SFU Denali Expedition.
• Mars News Collection: dynamically collecting news from a site and placing it on web, wireless web, and the voice web.
• PlanetNet: Full Canadian Space Agency-funded study and NASA/SFU collaboration on communications for planetary exploration.
• Education: teaching what we do.
• DeepSPOCC: Developing infrastructure for enabling Canadian-led exploration of Deep Space.
• GIGASOC: Game-changing Innovation through Gigabit Systems Operations Centres.
